Tending to Business: RTJ Construction – Building a Loyal Customer Base

Rich Palmaccio, general contractor and owner of RTJ Construction LLC, has worked and lived in Bergen County for nearly two decades.

“I’ve lived in Paramus for over 20 years and enjoy the environment,” he said. “Paramus is very central to all of Bergen County, which makes things more attractive and easy to get around.”

Palmaccio has been working in construction for 17 years. He began his career doing simple jobs, then additions, until eventually taking on new construction. He’s licensed in new construction and home improvement.

“I always had a passion for building things and seeing the end result,” he said.

Palmaccio started RTJ Construction in 1999 with two partners who have since passed on.

“Besides becoming best friends, [we were] best partners, without one fight throughout the relationship,” he said. Before starting RTJ, Palmaccio worked with his father on projects such as wallpaper and vinyl flooring.

RTJ Construction’s specialties include new home construction, residential renovation, commercial construction and property maintenance.

Big and small renovations are the most common request RTJ receives. Kitchen additions and new home construction also make up a good portion of the business. Palmaccio added that interior and exterior mid-sized renovations are the current trend in Bergen County homes.

Loyalty, total quality and cost-effectiveness are some of the qualities that Palmaccio uses to define RTJ Construction.

“Every customer I’ve done business with is a very good referral and some are very good friends, as well,” he said.

Palmaccio also cites his professional record as part of his success.

“My record with the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs of New Jersey is flawless and I’m always trying ways to make it better,” he said.

One of Palmaccio’s favorite aspects of the construction business is developing new relationships.

“The enjoyment of the client throughout the process, thanking me for all my hard work and dedication [is rewarding],” he said.

More than 80 percent of RTJ’s clients are repeat customers.

“I always love to work with people and try to do the right thing with their investment,” Palmaccio said.

Palmaccio’s favorite project to date was a New Jersey home with a variety of construction tasks. The residence had “many exceptional features” including batting cages in the basement, a custom outdoor grill area, and a stone masonry gas fireplace.

“I put myself on the job and know what’s going on from beginning to end,” he said. “I’m in communication with clients and work hand-in-hand with them so there are no gray areas or any confusion on the customer’s part.”
